Fort Wayne, Indiana – May 18, 2009 – Stoops Specialty Trucks (SST) from Stoops Freightliner, Sterling, and Western Star announced today that it has been awarded “Smart Way” certification status on its new Freightliner Cascadia Custom Sleeper Tractors that debuted at the Mid America Trucking Show in March of 2009. These are the only custom sleeper conversion units to achieve this honor. “We started with a state-of-the-art aerodynamic day cab tractor and then installed our custom fully integrated sleeper conversion,” said Jeff Jones, SST Sales Manager.

“Our business partners at Bentz Transport Products designed and built an OEM style, integrated one piece aerodynamic fiberglass roof module and then added custom wheel to wheel fairings with sleeper cab extenders to complete the package. We believe that this is the most aerodynamic custom sleeper tractor ever built. Even though diesel fuel prices have moderated recently, I want to give my customers every advantage possible to remain profitable when diesel fuel prices return to 2008 levels as predicted by industry experts. We also recognize the importance of protecting our environment by reducing greenhouse gases by utilizing the technology available from Freightliner, Detroit Diesel, Michelin, and many other leading component suppliers in our industry,” says Jones.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) SmartWay brand represents cleaner and more efficient transportation options that reduce greenhouse gases and improve air quality. The SmartWay brand is represented by the SmartWay logo. The SmartWay logo identifies companies, organizations, services and products that are reducing transportation-related emissions. However, the impact of the logo and the brand is much greater as the SmartWay brand signifies a partnership among government, business and consumers to protect our environment and improve our air quality for future generations.

The new SmartWay design will lower the drag coefficient for improved fuel economy and lower the carbon footprint in our environment. The taller roof also adds to the interior height to give the drivers additional comfort and eighteen percent more storage space than previous models. It also features a built in satellite TV receiver that is actually located inside the roof panel to further lower the drag coefficient of the vehicle. The side fairings feature a large “built in” tool box that pulls out for easy access and also has a side panel that provides service access to the 10 KW Gen Pac. The all aluminum “Coach Jointed” construction provides an extremely strong lightweight cab and a quiet comfortable environment for our customers while retaining the smooth side OEM styling of the Cascadia sleeper.

Dear Jeff,

We are writing this letter and presenting this gift to you for all of the work you did in putting together our current truck. We have either owned or driven three of your trucks. This current truck is outstanding.

We found you seven years ago at the beginning of our career at the recommendation from some of the veterans in our business. During a test drive of one of your trucks it was found to be far superior to the two trucks we had already test driven. Little did we know we were not only purchasing a truck but also your expertise and friendship.

With this 2007 SST100 we also went in a different direction with our career and have sub-leased the truck. There were no reservations at all in handing this truck over to someone else to drive. It is so well put together with the total package you have orchestrated. The Freightliner Columbia, Bentz Sleeper, Supreme Box, Carrier Reefer, Onan Generator, and Leyman Liftgate make this the ultimate truck. You have specked each part to perfection. We test drove the truck for a few hundred miles and the drive and ride were far superior to any prior trucks we had driven. It had to be the combination of the front end, tires, tandem axle and upgrades in the cab that help take some of the fatigue away that plagues every other driver. In the words of Steve and Jean Brothers, “It drives like a dream.” The hours you have spent in getting this truck ready are demonstrated in its performance. The truck and equipment are crucial to the success of our business. With this combination we feel we can be successful.

We could not imagine trying to put together a straight truck for the expediting business ourselves. There are so many different components which need to be compatible to make the truck work. It takes someone with knowledge, resources, and time to come up with the right combination. One thing we learned from the purchase of this truck is to let you handle the whole process and not try to micromanage the building of the truck. We found it best to let you, with your vast background, handle the process. We knew we were in good hands when you assured us you would keep us informed of the process and made sure we had all of the information needed to purchase the truck and sign on with FedEd Custom Critical.

Your work towards a perfect truck is appreciate. Trucking is a great business we are proud to be a part of.

Jeff, thank you.

Sincerely,

Larry & Marie Lewis

Building on its successful line of integrated custom sleeper cab conversions, Stoops Specialty Trucks (SST) in Fort Wayne Indiana, will unveil two new models at the Mid-America Trucking Show next month in Louisville, Kentucky. In addition to a production model of their current SST100IS1XT, they will display prototypes of the SST100IS2RR and the SST130IS1RR. These new models will feature a molded shower and toilet in both the 100-inch and the 130-inch versions of a raised roof, fully integrated sleeper cab. These new Raised Roof models are designed to improve aerodynamics for tractor-trailer applications as well as straight truck applications. The improved aerodynamics will lower the drag coefficient for improved fuel economy. The taller roof also adds to the interior height to give the driver additional comfort and storage space.

Stoops Specialty Trucks has partnered with Bentz Transport Products (Bentz) in Fort Wayne, Indiana to design and manufacture an exclusive line of fully integrated custom sleepers for the Freightliner Columbia, Century S/T, and Coronado models. According to SST Sales Manager, Jeff Jones, this program was developed in response to a market demand for larger, fully integrated, upscale sleepers on Class 8 tractors and straight trucks.

The engineering and tooling efforts required for this new sleeper program were significant according to Keith Bentz, President of Bentz. “This is the first production fully integrated custom sleeper brought to market. It is also the largest integrated sleeper available. The design and fit-and-finish result in a product with factory appearance combined with all of the features of a custom sleeper,” says Bentz.

Targeted to husband and wife teams in the tractor/trailer and expediter truck market segments, upscale features such as bigger beds, larger refrigerators, auxiliary power units and shower/toilet accommodations are offered. The SST Conversions on the Columbia, Century S/T, and Coronado tractors are designed to offer large and luxurious accommodations in a lightweight package. The SST100IS1XT on the Columbia CL112 straight truck chassis is designed to meet expediter requirements for a 22’ van body within a 40’ overall length. The roof is low enough to allow a refrigeration unit to be installed above the sleeper for highly specialized climate control applications.

Look for them at the Bentz Transport Products Booth #4150 in the South Wing across the isle from Freightliner. For more information see www.sst100.com and www.truckingshow.com.

For customers desiring larger sleepers, two additional models, the SST130 and the SST150 are scheduled for release later this year.
